Event: Dynamic Stereotypes: The "Threat" of Mid-Career Women

Thursday, January 26, 2023, 12 – 1:15pm PST

This ADVANCE Mentoring-for-Leadership lunch will be a topical lunch featuring a discussion about how gender stereotypes change perceptions of women faculty as they advance in their careers. This lunch discussion will be guided by a recent paper by Chatman et al. which looks at the intersection of age and gender and how women are perceived throughout their careers and how mid-career women are penalized for being perceived as “competent but insufficiently warm.” One of the paper’s co-authors, Dr. Laura Kray (The Ned & Carol Spieker Professor of Leadership, University of California, Berkeley and Faculty Director of the Center for Equity, Gender, and Leadership), will join via Zoom to provide a brief overview of this topic and the paper.
