"Supporting Department Chairs: Self Care in the Face of Burnout, Crisis and Trauma"
This Winter’s ADVANCE Leadership Workshop will focus on a trauma-stewardship approach to self-care for chairs. Given this ongoing and unprecedented time of pandemic conditions, social justice and racial reckonings, and limited resources, academic leaders are dealing with a lot. Leaders may experience a sense they can never do enough, hypervigilance, feelings of being overwhelmed or numb, or other stressors.
The Winter workshop will be led by Robin Neal Clayton who will describe Laura van Dernoot Lipsky’s trauma stewardship framework and explore practical tools to help chairs care for themselves, even as they care for others, and increase their capacity to persist effectively in difficult situations. The workshop will include breakout discussions and reflection time. This framework builds on ideas shared at the Fall ADVANCE leadership workshop and continues this year’s focus on self-care for department chairs. You do not need to have attended the Fall workshop to join this event.
