Event: "Science Communication Workshop"
Wednesday, March 3, 2021, 3:30 – 5pm PST
ADVANCE is partnering with science communication gurus from the College of the Environment for our winter quarter pre-tenure and mid-career faculty development workshop. The UW College of the Environment has developed resources and trainings for faculty, staff and students to confidently share their work and its value with audiences outside of academia. The goal is to help amplify the impact of UW research by better connecting it to audiences that may benefit.
Molly M. McCarthy, Managing Director of Marketing and Communications at the College of the Environment, and John Meyer, Director of Science Communication at the College of the Environment, will share key components of their trainings to help you become a better communicator about the importance and value of your work. They will discuss simple but powerful concepts that can shape your communication strategy in a way to have impact, and practice how different messages connect with various audiences. Participants will have time to work on the concepts during our time together, and also during an optional session the following week.
Speakers:
- Molly M. McCarthy, Managing Director of Marketing and Communications, College of the Environment
- John Meyer, Director of Science Communication, College of the Environment
