Join UW ADVANCE on January 24th for an informal discussion on Student Evaluations of Teaching (SET) with Denise Wilson, Professor, Electrical & Computer Engineering. Professor Wilson will present extensive research that shows that SET ratings must be used cautiously in evaluating teaching effectiveness, especially as part of personnel decisions. Further, using average SETs among faculty to set a standard of performance is fraught with misuse of statistics and often sends the wrong message.
