Dr. Kendall joined the Speech and Hearing Sciences Department in 2008. She has was appointed chair of SPHSC in 2015. Her research program is focused on rehabilitation of aphasia with a particular emphasis on understanding the underlying mechanisms of the relationship between phonology and word retrieval in individuals with aphasia. Since 1998 she has been involved in language rehabilitation trials by employing the organizing structure for conducting clinical-outcome research that has been outlined in terms of a five-phase model (Robey, 2004). She completed a series of Phase I through Phase III studies on the influence of phonomotor treatment on word retrieval deficits in persons with aphasia. Dr. Kendall has been involved in large scale aphasia rehabilitation trials since her faculty appointment at the University of Florida and the VA RR&D Brain Rehabilitation and Research Center.
