Dr. Cherry Banks, Director and Professor of Education, University of Washington in Bothell
Cherry A. McGee Banks is professor and director of education at the University of Washington, Bothell, and faculty associate of the Center. Her current research focuses on race and gender in educational leadership. She has contributed to such journals as the Phi Delta Kappan, Social Studies and the Young Learner, Educational Policy, Theory Into Practice, and Social Education. Professor Banks is associate editor of the Handbook of Research on Multicultural Education<http://depts.washington.edu/centerme/hrme.htm>, and coeditor of Multicultural Education: Issues and Perspectives, contributing author of Education in the 80s: Multiethnic Education, and co-author of March Toward Freedom: A History of Black Americans. Her most recent work is Improving Multicultural Education: Lessons from the Intergroup Education Movement<http://depts.washington.edu/centerme/intergroup.htm>. She also serves on the editorial board of Educational Foundations. In 1997, Professor Banks received the Distinguished Teaching Award from the University of Washington, Bothell.
