Patricia Spakes, Chancellor, University of Washington
In April 2005, Dr. Patricia Spakes joined the University of Washington,
Tacoma, as Chancellor after serving as provost and vice president for
academic affairs at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. Past
positions also include vice president for academic affairs at Fitchburg
State College in Massachusetts; vice provost for academic affairs at
Arizona State University West, where she was the founding chair of the
women's studies program; and chair of women's studies and director of
school social work certification at the University of North Carolina,
Dr. Spakes holds a Ph.D. in social welfare from the University of
Wisconsin - Madison, and an M.S.W. from the University of South
Carolina. Her B.A. is a double major, cum laude, in sociology/social
work and English from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Publications over her academic career have focused on family policy.
